Project Description I was fascinated by tessellations. I kept looking at them wondering how did folks like Escher do it? Then I came by a book by Jinny Byers (I'm going by memory here - I may need to edit the spellings and names later). The book was a design book that de-mystified the math. I had to do a little eye-rolling as I recalled obstinately telling my 9th-grade geometry teacher that I would not need to understand geometry. Here I was studying math for quilt design. (Sigh). It was a turbulent time in my life when I started the quilt. I cannot remember when it was. Somewhere between 2000 and now. A lot of things seemed broken, where I needed healing. My (former) husband was ill and needed many surgeries. I would quilt as we waited through twelve surgeries. My daughter was diagnosed with a disabling syndrome. Thread through the quilt layers. My father had emergency heart surgery... my best friend's husband died young - after the birth of their third child ... my health started to deteriorate... my marriage started to deteriorate... and yet there was this constant and stable force that would come as I sat and quilted. My zen of quilting. Thread going through the layers of quilt. The process of hand quilting brought comfort to me. This quilt will be done entirely by hand. No machine stitching or quilting. Photos will be coming.
Materials Batik background fabric, white needle-turned applique top, seed beads, straw and between needles.
